Marilyn K. (Myers) Gregory
Marilyn K.( Myers) Gregory, 54, died Friday Feb. 3, 2012 in Spencer. She was a resident of Spencer and formerly of Greenwood. Marilyn was born July 31, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Center Grove Schools. She was self-employed as a home health caretaker. Marilyn enjoyed shopping and going to Nashville to the Antique shops. She loved working in her flower gardens and doing yard work. She was an avid horse person and enjoyed riding and taking care of her horses. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her mother, Ruth B. Howe of Greenwood, her husband, Paul Gregory of Spencer, six children, Heather M. Mc Ginn of Greenwood, George A. Weaver Jr. of Bedford, James N. Weaver, Edward P. Gregory II, Ryan M. Gregory and Kyle D. Gregory all of Spencer, sister, Karen Oakes of Whiteland and two brothers, Gary Myers of Whiteland and Douglas W. Myers of Greenwood, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father, James O. Myers. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 7, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel,729 U.S. Hwy 31 North, with visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday Feb. 6, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
Heinz J. Mobley
Heinz J. Mobley, 62, died Thursday Feb. 2, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood. Heinz enjoyed fishing, his two dogs and watching sports on TV. He loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include, his wife, Rebecca (Montgomery) Mobley of Greenwood, three children, Angela Lopez and Joey Oyerbides both of Texas and Richard Oyerbides of Shelbyville, a sister, Gloria Collins of Calif. and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margarete R. (Egelseer) Mobley. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Monday Feb. 6, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Dorothy E. Brown
Dorothy E. Brown, 71, passed away Friday February 2, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood. Dorothy was born October 2, 1941 in Indianapolis Indiana to Leo and Roxie (Speers) McClure. She was married to George R. Brown and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband George R. Brown, five children, Keith Barnes and Kevin Barnes, both of Indianapolis, Donna Sanford of Greenwood, Dawn Barnes of Bloomington and Lisa Brown of Kokomo, sister, Bonnie Van DeGrift of Indianapolis., four Brothers, Mark McClure and Andy McClure both of Indianapolis, John McClure of Franklin and Richard McClure of Louisville Ky., 12 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Leo McClure. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. Feb. 6, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North. Camden Chester “Benny” Bennett
Camden Chester “Benny” Bennett, 70, passed away Monday Jan. 30, 2012 in Beech Grove. He was a resident of Beech Grove. Camden was born Sept. 9, 1941 in Ramsey, West Virginia to Jacob and Marie (Mc Cune) Bennett. He was married to Iris (McNew) Bennett for 43 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was retired from Hinder Liter Trucking Company, where he was a semi-truck driver. Camden was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Indianapolis. He enjoyed playing with several country gospel music groups. Survivors include his wife, Iris Bennett, six children, Roger Bennett, Crystal Garbe, Linda Gentry, Steve Lumpkin, Donald J. Lumpkin and Diana Jarvis, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dan Lumpkin, three brothers and 3 grandsons, Thomas, Jacob and Danny Jr. Rev. Mahlon D. Byerly
Mahlon D. Byerly, 88, passed away Saturday Jan 28, 2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Mahlon was born June 3, 1923 in Linton, Indiana to Grover and Bess (Manning) Byerly. He married Ola Mae Freeman on June 6, 1948 in Worthington, Indiana; they were married for 63 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force Veteran. Mahlon was an Indiana State Police Trooper for 20 years; retiring in 1974. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and politics. He was a county councilman for four terms and precinct committee person for Pleasant 19. Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae Byerly of New Whiteland, two children, Stephen (Kay) Byerly of Franklin and Deana Pierson of Needham, three grandchildren, Hayley Pierson, Megan Jessen, and Andrea Parsley and a great-grandson, Camden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Bess Byerly. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery in Elnora, Indiana. Francis Rose
Francis G. Rose, 27, died Jan 6, 2012 in Florida. He was a resident of Florida, formerly of Johnson County. Survivors include, father, Gary Rose, step-mother, Ann Rose, birth mother, Tammy Randolph, two children, Hadassah Rose and Elijah Rose, two sisters, Chastity Mascarenas and Amber Rose, three brothers, Ashley and Steven Rose and Nathaniel Hasterlik. Ralph Cummings
Ralph Cummings, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Monday Jan. 30, 2012 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Ralph was born on April 6, 1920 in Bloomington, Indiana to the late John and Sylvia (Boltinghouse) Cummings. He was a Bloomington High School graduate and attended Purdue University. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. He was employed as a truck driver for over 55 years with Amoco Oil and Ryder Trucking Companies. He was a member of Emmanuel Church of Greenwood. Survivors include, his son, James Cummings, wife Sue, of Greenwood and daughter, Marsha Carlson of Dayton, Ohio, five grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wives, Gladys (Spell) Cummings and Virginia (Huddleston) Cummings and five sisters, Hazel, Mildred, Eva, Ruby and Betty. Pastor Marion Glover will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday Feb. 4, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North. Mildred Ione (Armstrong) Smith
Mildred Ione (Armstrong) Smith, 97, died Saturday Jan. 28, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Trafalgar. Survivors include six children, Vonna L. (Bert) Basgall of Kansas, Ronald E. (Peggy) Smith of Calif., Norman E. Smith and Verna M. Jett both of Trafalgar, Karen S. (Bundy) Rogers, of Morgantown and David A. (Maureen) Smith of Franklin, 34 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 39 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death, her parents, Bradford T. and Dollie M.(Peacock) Armstrong, husband, Raymond Charles Smith Sr., son, Raymond Charles Smith Jr., five brothers and two sisters. Nathan D. Miller
Nathan D. Miller, 38, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at his residence in Greenwood. Nathan was born March 2, 1973 in Franklin. Nathan had previously been employed at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh and Johnson County Sheriff Department in the jail division. Nathan was an avid arms collecter. He enjoyed hunting, his dogs, Nails and Giggy and spending time with his family. Survivors include his father Gary(step-mother Linnie) Miller of Trafalgar, two sisters, Angie Robinson of Indianapolis, Sarah Bradley of Whiteland, two step-sisters, Melissa (Zach) Mullis of Franklin, Ashley (Jon) Templeman of Edinburgh and grandmother, Sharon Allee of Whiteland. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents: George T & Marie Miller, Glen T. Allee, Rev. Clayton & Carrie Mason and his mother, Karen Bradley. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Beulah M. (Carmichael ) Swift , 80, died Wednesday Jan 25, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Survivors include a son, Norman (Brenda) Swift of Franklin, four brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and her former husband, Ora Swift. Connie A. (Ristedt) Townsend, 43, passed away Tuesday Jan 24, 2012 in Greenwood. She was a resident of New Whiteland. Connie was born March 30, 1968 in Beech Grove, Indiana. She married Greg Townsend on Sept. 9, 1999 in Greenwood; they were married for 12 years. Connie was a bartender at Hi-Way Lanes in Franklin and Whit’s Inn in Whiteland for 5 years. She enjoyed doing Sudoku, bowling and riding with her husband on their Harley Davidson motorcycle. Connie was a collector of coca cola memorabilia. She was a NASCAR fan and her favorite driver was Mark Martin. She loved spending time with family and friends having cook outs by the pool. Survivors include her father, Vincent Ristedt of Indianapolis, mother and stepfather, Shirley and Steve (Wilson) Brizendine of Arizona, husband Greg Townsend of New Whiteland, two children , Whitney Mull of Greenwood and Levi Townsend of New Whiteland, two sisters, Crissy Fox of Greenwood and Kelly Ristedt of Arizona, two brothers, Paul Ristedt of Whiteland and Scott Ristedt of Indianapolis, a granddaughter Makala Kissie of Greenwood , mother- in-law, Ruth Townsend of Whiteland and grandparents, Jan and Vaden Brizendine of Mooresville. She was preceded in death by grandmother, Edna Wilson and father-in-law, Earl Townsend. Dorse Earl Groce, 71, died Friday Jan 20, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Dorse was born on Dec. 27, 1940 in Albany Kentucky to Samuel Virgil and Reba Tresie (Thrasher) Groce. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was employed as a roofer for Superior Roofing for 15 years; retiring in 2008. Dorse enjoyed playing pool and was a big NASCAR fan. He is survived by his long time companion, Carol Duncan of Indianapolis, five children, Cindy Cornett of Georgia, John Earl Groce of Franklin, Reba Joan Munden of Greenfield, Tracy Lynn Davis and Donnie Ray Groce both of Indianapolis, eight siblings, Mary W. Aldridge of Bargersville, Sylvia G. McClure and Donald R. Groce both of Indianapolis, Margaret Hickman and Johnny D. Groce both of Tenn., Mona Underwood and Cletus H. Groce both of Ill., and Gary M. Groce of New Palestine,14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, his parents, a stepson, Lonnie L. Duncan and five siblings, Eddie R., Roger P., Virgil B. Groce and Verna Fisher and Reba Joan Ellis. William Robert Waggoner, 83, died Monday Jan. 16, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was a U.S. Army veteran. William enjoyed baseball and coaching baseball. He also like spending time fishing. Survivors include seven children, Wayne (Cherilyn) Waggoner of Michigan, Jean Hook of Oklahoma, David (Sharon) Waggoner of Maryland, Andy (Sarah) Waggoner of Brownsburg and Terry (Amie) Waggoner of Whiteland, a brother, George Waggoner of Michigan, and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Isabel (Walters) Waggoner, two daughters, Lois Galbreath and Linda Williams, two sisters, Eunice Jean Lawrence and Helen Mae Weeks and three brothers, Maurice, Clair and James Waggoner. Zelda Kay Meece, 66, passed away Wednesday Jan. 11, 2012 in Morgantown. She was a resident Morgantown. She was born March 6, 1945 in Casey County Kentucky. Zelda enjoyed doing crafts and any kind of puzzles. She loved all kinds of animals. Survivors include three sisters, L. Willidene (John) Luhn of Whiteland, Joyce Carlson of Fairland, Rosa Wood of Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Royal B. and Ruth Jane (Combs) Meece, two brothers, Roy Gene and Gerald Meece and a sister, Emma Jean Meece. Kenneth E. “Kenny” Wade, 65, died Monday Jan. 9, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was born Feb. 15, 1946. Kenny was an avid golfer and a member of the Pleasant Run golf course. Survivors include his wife, Karen (Campbell) Wade of Indianapolis, five children, Kenny Jo Wade of Indianapolis, Becky Butler, Kellie Staten, Andy and Derrick Wade all of North Carolina, 6 siblings, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brother-in-laws, Robert Campbell of Greenwood and Jim Campbell of Texas. Tilford W. “TW” Sutterfield, 76, died Thursday January 5, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was born January 1, 1936 in Fordland, MO to Floyd and Laura (Maxey) Sutterfield. He married Judith “Judy” McClain October 27, 1956 in Indianapolis. He was and engineering manager for Stewart – Warner Corp for over 35 years retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Shelbyville Road Church of Christ. He was a Sojourner, handyman and do it yourself guy. He enjoyed being on the computer and doing yard work. Survivors include his wife Judy Sutterfield, Indianapolis, two children Terry (Donna) Sutterfield, and Pam Sutterfield both of Indianapolis, a sister Barbara Rogers, Mesa, AZ, four grandchildren Tara Hatcher, Sarah Jones, Kristin Marini, Trent Sutterfield, and six great grandchildren Jayson and Promise Jones, Blake and Addison Hatcher, Grace and Faith Englert. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Floyd, Robert, Roy and Leon Sutterfield and a sister Eula Barnett. Frank Edward Farris, 68, passed away on Friday Dec. 30, 2011 in New Whiteland. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Frank was born on Feb 1, 1943 in Beech Grove to Lloyd and Mary J. (Culley) Farris. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was employed with Amco Elevator Company as an elevator repairman for 30 years. He retired in 2009. Frank enjoyed boating, camping, fishing and watching fishing shows on television. He liked vacationing in Florida. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.He is survived by his mother, Mary Farris of Greenwood, wife, Betty (Patrick) Farris of New Whiteland, four children, Tammy (Randy) Farris of Waldron, Kathy (Harry) Stevenson of Franklin, Mary Parton and Eddie Farris both of New Whiteland, two brothers, Mike Farris of Franklin and Rick Farris of Greenwood, 15 grandchildren, Brent and Rhonda Singleton, Artie and Amber Powell, Chad Smoot, Cory Williams, Sara and Craig Buck, Holden, Pete, Kevin, and Devon Stevenson, Monica Law, Brandon and Cody Gibson, 18 great-grandchildren and the family dog, Smokey. Mary Shumaker
Mary Carolyn (Moldthan) Shumaker, 64, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Mary was born Oct. 5, 1947 in Indianapolis to John A. and Rita (Royse) Moldthan. She married Carl A. Shumaker on Sept. 8, 1973; he preceded her in death in 2003. She was employed with Purdue University Extension Cooperative Services of Marion County as a Family Nutrition Advisor for many third and fourth grade IPS students, all of which loved her dearly and looked forward to her visits. Mary enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis, helping children through her job, and shopping. She loved spending time with her family and granddaughter. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was a stranger to no one and a caring friend to all. Survivors include, daughter, Jennifer (Noah) Coffey of Avon, three sisters, Kathleen Findlay, Eileen Green and Margaret Green all of Fishers, a brother, John Moldthan of Florida and a granddaughter, Alexandra Coffey of Avon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Carl Moldthan and a sister, Martha Moldthan. Fr. Cayla was employed by Franklin United Methodist Community in housekeeping. She graduated from Kaplan College as a dental assistant. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, pets and her new puppy. She loved spending time with family, friends and boyfriend Jordan Hawkins. Jeri L. James, 54, died Friday Dec. 16, 2011 in Greenwood. She was a resident of Greenwood. She was born Dec.28, 1956 in Ft. Belvoir, Va. She enjoyed crafts, mural paintng, and music. She was an online DJ for Radio Scooter International. Survivors include, her mother, Phyllis Preston of Kentucky, 6 children, Jason (Krya) Ridenour, Jaron (Alesia) James, Jesse Lashley, Justin Lashley all of Greenwood, Millicent (Fletcher) Eccles of Indianapolis, and Emily Coomes of Terre Haute, a brother, Kevin (Beverly) James of Indianapolis and seven grandchildren. Lindell U. Sutton
Lindell U. Sutton, 91, passed away Saturday December 17, 2011 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin. Lindell was born March 6, 1920 in Johnston City, Illinois to Burney and Susie A. (Shover) Sutton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a WWII Purple Heart recipient. He married Mary A. Wilson on May 30, 1942 in Charleston, Missouri. He was a loving and devoted father and husband, spending every day by Mary’s side at Franklin Meadows. He was employed with International Paper Company in Kansas City, Kansas for 25 years ,retiring in 1981. He later was employed with the Greenwood High School as a custodian for 3 years. Lindell was very involved at the Bargersville Flea market in Bargersville as a vendor for more than 10 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by two children, Kathy (Russell) Conaway of Franklin and Sandy (Paul) Vest of Nashville, Tenn., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Sutton, two brothers, Loreen and Kenneth Sutton and a sister, Dot Vassilio. Dora Irene (Shipp) Cox Ferrell, 72, passed away Thursday Dec. 15, 2011 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Dora was born on April 29, 1939 in Johnson County to the late, Charles and Mary (Koltoff) Shipp. She was married to the late Kenny Ferrell. Dora was employed with the Johnson County Sheriff Dept. as a dispatcher and matron for 30 years, then was employed at the Franklin Central High School in the maintenance department in Indianapolis for 7 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary at the Whiteland V.F.W. She enjoyed bowling, fishing and crafts. She loved spending time with her family and friends. He married Mary Rose Many on March 28, 1948 in Indianapolis; they were married for 63 years. He was employed for Conrail Railroad as a car foreman for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran. Carl was always interested in anything that had to do with Air force. Carl enjoyed old antique cars and Indy Car racing. He was a lifetime member of the Greenwood American Legion, Post # 252. He was a charter member of the Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood. She was born November 19, 1927 in Indianapolis to Wayne and Daisy (Fields) Sanders. She married Melvin Babbs December 7, 1946 in Indianapolis. She was owner and operator of Babbs Restaurant in Whiteland for 22 years. She also worked for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield for 15 years retiring in 1990. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, being with her pets and family, being around people and was a jokester. Survivors include her husband Melvin Babbs, Whiteland, two children Melvin Luke Babbs, Greenwood, and Kathy Sue (Keith) Bolin, Whiteland, a sister Marjorie Fruits, Stilesville, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Kenneth Lynn McCullough Jr., 50, born and raised on the Westside of Indianapolis passed away Wednesday October 5, 2011. He was a loving son, brother, a devoted father and a very proud papaw. His family meant the world to him. Kenny was a journeyman electrician and active in the Wayne Township Republican party. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids daily, watching NASCAR , Football and trying his best to live life to the fullest and exactly how he wanted. Barbara “Bobbie” Jean (Compton) Hommey, 83, passed away Wednesday Sept. 28, 2011 in Nineveh. She was a resident of Nineveh and a former long time resident of New Whiteland. Bobbie was born on Jan 1, 1928 in Terre Haute. She graduated from Terre Haute High School, class of 1945. She married Clifford Hommey on August 18, 1947, he preceded her in death in 1976. She was employed for Indiana University Hospital as a clerk in the accounting department for 21 years. She retired in 1990. Bobbie was very dedicated to her family, taking care of her mother and aunt into their later years. She loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and going to the movies. Survivors include, three daughters, Sheryll Durbin, Michelle (John) Work and Chris Gardner, eight grandchildren, Paul (Missy) Durbin, Grace (Paul) Norton, Kevin (Pam) Durbin, James (Trina) Durbin, April (Rick) Wheeler, Danielle (Kyle) Grose, Paula (Will) Norman and Lindsay Gardner, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a cousin, Mary Lou (Joe) Messer and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Inez (Drake) Compton, husband, Clifford, brother, Spencer “Bill” Compton, son-in-law, Wayne Durbin, and two aunts, Ruby Drake and Etna Newton. James Chandler
James F. Chandler, 83, died Monday Sept. 26, 2011 in Franklin. He was a resident of Whiteland. James was born on May 13, 1928 in Henderson, Kentucky to Ollie and Erma (Stone) Chandler. He was a foreman for Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1987.James enjoyed fishing and hunting and being at deer camp. He also enjoyed buying and selling antiques.He was on the Board of Appeals for the Town of Whiteland. He was a charter member of the Whiteland Masonic Lodge # 746. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners.Survivors include seven children, Beverly Chandler, Karen Parton, Glenn Chandler, Terry Chandler and Patricia Wilson all of Franklin, Brenda Woodall of Whiteland and Amanda Maxwell of Florida, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Harold and Earl Chandler. W. Faye (Carver) Frank, 84, died Monday Sept. 26, 2011 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin and formerly of St. Louis, Mo. Survivors include two children, Paulette Geyer of Whiteland and Phyllis King of Greenwood, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Cora (Hailey) Carver, husband, M.D. Frank, three brothers and two sisters. No services are planned at this time. Kathryn Louise ( Wallace) Gregory, 78, died Wednesday Sept. 21, 2011 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. She was born Dec. 19, 1932 in Union County, Kentucky to James L. and Flossie L. (Kee) Wallace. She was a caregiver and waitress in Indianapolis for several years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping and doing wordfind puzzles. Survivors include three children, Connie J. (Jimmy) Bernard and Marketta L. Denton both of Indianapolis, Kathryn J. Koger of Greenwood and 11 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren and one great- great- grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Charles Wallace. Esther A. ( Wagner) Buryanek, 91, died Monday Sept. 19, 2011 in Fishers. She was a resident of Fishers. Survivors include, a son, Michael J. Buryanek of Fishers, two sisters, Betty Wooden of Pa. and Helen Dimmick of New York, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo George Buryanek, her parents, John J. and Esther (McIntyre) Wagner, a daughter, Sandra Collins, three brothers and two sister. Joyce Ann Jones, 39, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of New Whiteland. Joyce was born on May 13, 1972 in Franklin, Indiana. Joyce was a recent graduate of MMI where she was educated to service Harley-Davidson motorcycles. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle, her dog Snookie, and spending time with her family and friends. She made everybody smile. Robert H. Peddycord Jr., 86, died Friday Sept. 16,2011 in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. Robert was born May 15, 1925 in Pasadena, Calif. to the late Robert H. Sr. and Alice (Lodge) Peddycord. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He graduated from Washington Sate University and was a member of their alumni association. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He also was a member of the Wisemans Club- Y.M.C.A. in Calif. and on the Sports Council in Los Angles for many years. In his younger days he played baseball with Jackie Robinson. He was employed with the Parks and Recreation Department for many years and for National Sporting Goods Assn. both in Pasadena, Calif.

Carolyn (Clark) Hale, 75, of Martinsville (Waverly) passed away at her home Friday Sept. 9, 2011. Carolyn was born on August 11, 1936 in Old Sparta Kentucky, the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Marksberry) Clark. She was married to the late Victor Hale Sr. She was employed in the accounting department for Taystee Bread and Bordens Milk companies. She also was employed at the Waverly Inn for seven years and Consumer Credit Counseling Service until retiring in 1996. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and making Christmas ornaments . She loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include, two sons, Victor Hale Jr. and Jim Hale, two daughters, Cathy Santiago and Sherri Ensminger, adopted son, Roy Bertrum, long time companion, Donald Sims, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Tony Hale, three brothers Harry, Lester Ray, and Harold Clark, and a grandson, Jonathon Hale. Dayton L. Kean
Dayton Lowell Kean, 41, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His injury was related to a bicycle accident that occurred on June 6, 2011. At his side were his loving sister, Ronda Lancaster of Trafalgar and dear friends, Melanie Bruce of Indianapolis and Darla McKnight of Trafalgar. Dayton was a resident of Trafalgar.vHe will be missed by his mother, Ida (Thompson) Kean and his brother, Scott Kean both of Trafalgar, sisters, Rhoda Miller of Jamestown, Kentucky and Bridgette Rogers of Morgantown. Other survivors include five nieces and two nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry E. Kean and a brother H. Bryan Kean. Dayton was born December 15, 1969 in Franklin. He graduated from Indian Creek High School, class of 1989. He received an Associates Degree in Cosmetology in 1991. He worked at several salons in Broad Ripple and Indianapolis. Dayton enjoyed spending time with his family and friends He was a great cook, home decorator and loved animals. He devoted his adult life to the care giving of his parents. Rev. Hugh Burns will conduct a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Sunday Sept.25, 2011 at 215 South Pleasant St. Trafalgar. John L. Mosier
John L. Mosier, 76, passed away Tuesday August 30, 2011 in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. He was born July 3, 1935 in Canal Winchester, Ohio to Lawrence and Helen (Anderson) Mosier. John married his high school sweetheart Betty Brandt Mosier on January 22, 1955 and she survives. He served in the US Army from August 1954 to August 1957 and the Army Reserve until 1962. He received a medal for establishing an administrative and technical library in the office of the Judge Advocate General, USA Army Security Agency during the Korean conflict. One of his great joys was working with youth at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis and later working with disadvantaged youth through Oak Park Baptist Church in New Orleans. He enjoyed being a counselor at Camp Olivet in Indiana, pitching for several softball teams at work and church and donating time to church and his community. John worked at RCA in Indianapolis, AMAX Coal in Indianapolis, and retired for Entergy in New Orleans in 1995. John was a member of Calvary Baptist in Greenwood. He is survived by sons Jon (Ilene) Mosier, Indianapolis, IN, Jay (Shari) Mosier, Columbus, IN, daughter, Joni (Reverend Mark) Brady, North Carolina, 4 grandchildren Jennifer (Larry) Girdler, Joe (Kristin) Mosier, Pamela (Phil) Gifford, David (Natalie) Brady, 7 great grandchildren. William E. Newkirk, 88, died Tuesday August 30, 2011 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood. William was born March 21, 1923 in Elizaville, Indiana to Jacob A. and Mabel R. (Long) Newkirk. He was an US Army Air Corps Veteran. He married Ruth F. Lisle in May of 1998, they were married for 22 years. He worked for William H. Blocks Company in the maintenance department. He was active in the Beech Grove Senior Center and church vacation bus trips. He enjoyed wood crafting and loved talking to and spending time with his family, no one was a stranger to him. His favorite saying was “Second Tuesday of next week”. Survivors include his wife Ruth Newkirk, Greenwood, four children Robert (Sandy) Newkirk, Indianapolis, Judith (Joseph) Hess, Elkhart, Gloria Jean Smith, Greenwood and Darlene Silver, Columbus, two brothers Lloyd Newkirk, Whitestown and Floyd Newkirk, Lebanon, 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Survivors include three children, Ann Hicks and Emily Rohrer both of Indianapolis and Sean Rohrer of Brazil, Indiana, a sister, Donna Allen of Mooresville, two brothers, Thomas Hicks Jr. and Richard Hicks both of Mooresville and four grandchildren, Taylor Hicks, Hannah Williams, Makenzie Rohrer and William Rohrer. Roger A. Lowe, 72, died Wednesday August 24, 2011 in Anderson. He was a resident of Anderson. Mr. Lowe was born Sept. 14, 1938 to late Laurence and Marjorie (Taylor) Lowe in Franklin, Indiana. He was married to Jane Hiatt Lowe, she survives. He received a Bachelors’ of Science- Nursing degree from Indiana University and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, reading English mysteries and traveling. He loved his family and spending time with his son and grandchildren. Survivors include,his wife, one son, Nathanael “Buck” (Audrey) Lowe of Anderson, a sister Rebecca Bennett of Whiteland and six grandchildren, Laurence W. Lowe, Justin O. Lowe. Haley C. Amber enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and loved to dance. She loved her daughter, Kirsten, and spending time with her and her family. Amber had a great smile, someone wrote in a song for her; Her eyes the color of the sky, smile as bright as the sun. Survivors include, four children, Nancy (David) Baughman of Franklin, Hershell E. (Sue) Sandlin and David W. (Linda) Sandlin both of Whiteland, Phyllis E. (Bruce) Collinsworth of W. Virginia, sister, Viola Giltner of Hanover and sister–in-law, Evelyn Handlon of Hanover, eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. James M. Engmark, 79, died Friday August 12, 2011 in Greenwood. He was a resident of New Whiteland.Jim was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Indianapolis to Carl and Martha (Mount) Engmark. He was employed for Allison as a General Supervisor for 40 years, retiring in 1990.He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Jim enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the Indian Creek Christian Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and past president of Johnson Co. Shiners’ Club. Survivors include, three children, Kimberly Jo (Randy) Enerson of Port Richey, Florida, Diana Sue (John) Smith of Whiteland and James B. Marshall Christian Reed, 62, died Thursday August 4, 2011 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Marshall was born on June 27, 1949 in Indianapolis to Marshall Ray and Margaret Louise (West) Reed. He married Doris Ann Vaughn on Dec. 06, 1980 in Indianapolis. They were married for 30 years. He was self employed as a tree trimmer/ landscaper for more than 25 years, retiring in 1997. Marshall enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Indiana Bow Hunters Association and National Rifle Association. He coached boy’s Bantam football and basketball and girl’s softball and basketball in Center Grove. He had been a Cub Scout leader. Marshall loved his children and grandchildren and spending time with them. Survivors include his wife Doris Ann Reed, three children, Marshall T. Reed, Katherine A. Reed and Michael C. Reed, and four grandchildren, Addelynn R. Reed, Jaydon C. Reed, Jackson R. Lee and Isabella Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Margaret Reed. Kathy was born August 6, 1931 in Hackleburg, Al. to Thomas Leland and Lelon (Whisenant) Berry. She married J W Wolford on Sept. 26, 1949 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Kathy was a bus driver for 20 years for the Center Grove School Corp. She was known for giving Christmas ornaments to her kids on the bus every year. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and reading. She was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church and enjoyed going to church. Michael Stephen Jastraub,49, of Greenwood,passed away Friday July
29,2011,after a valiant battle with cancer,in Indianapolis. He was born January
1.1962 in Livonia, Michigan. Michael was a 1980 graduate of Center Grove High School where he
participated in sports, most notably known for his skills on the football field. Michael attended Indiana State University. He was an avid Colts fan, loved music, writing inspiritional poems and messages and all sports events. He loved life, especially being with family and friends.
Michael leaves behind to treasure his memory and sense of humor, his beloved son Evan Jastraub of Indianapolis, mother,Barbara(Stephen)Shay of Greenwood,father, Stephen (JoAnn) Jastraub of Bargersville,sister,Terrie (Chris) Hedeen of Greenwood, brother David Jastraub of Greenwood and step-brother, Andrew(Kim)Shay of Indianapolis. Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Vandivier Parsley) Hey, 90, died Monday July 11, 2011 in Greenwood. She was a resident of Greenwood Village South. Betty was born August 11, 1920 in Franklin, Indiana to Clancy and Marie (Fuller) Vandivier. She was married to Norman Parsley, he preceded her in death in1960, and then married Robert H. Hey, he preceded her in death in 1994. Betty was owner, operator and funeral director of the Vandivier Parsley Funeral Home in Franklin. She was one of the first female embalmers in the state of Indiana. She enjoyed buying and remodeling homes. She was very active in the Flee Market at the Greenwood Village South that helped raise funds for Greenwood Village. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Huguenot Society and the Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include, daughter and son-in-law Gail and Scott Howell of Palm Coast, Florida, three grandchildren, Jeff Howell of Palm Coast, Florida, Pamela Knight of Okeechobee, Florida and Deahdra Shertzer of Pembrook Pines, Florida, eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. SPC E-4. James Allen Waters “Jimmy”, 21, died Friday July 1, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was a resident of Cloverdale. James was born on Sept. 2, 1989 in Indianapolis to Garry and Valerie (Aldous) Waters. James attended Clark-Pleasant schools and graduated from Whiteland Community High School in the Class of 2008. While in high school he was on the wrestling and football teams. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 2009. He was deployed to Afghanistan in March of this year. He had received seven medals and citations while in the military. His unit was 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, New York. James was a dedicated and enthusiastic soldier. He enjoyed fishing, paintball and spending time with his family and friends. James liked to make people laugh and enjoyed having fun. James Roscoe Hart, 75, died Sunday July 3, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. James was born Jan 7, 1936 to Marvin and Bessie (Gadberry) Hart in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He married Wanda Long on Nov. 17, 1956 in Russell Springs, Kentucky. They were married for 54 years. James was employed for 45 years in the die-setup division for Arvins in Columbus. He also was a Hereford cattle farmer for over 40 years. He enjoyed raising Hereford cows and tractor pulling. He was a member of the Hoosier State Tractor Pulling Association and National Tractor Pulling Association. He was a member of the Shiloh Community Church in Franklin. Survivors include; his wife, Wanda Hart of Franklin, three children, James Anthony (Debbie) Hart, Rhonda Janeen Hart, and Susan Ann Hart all of Franklin, two sisters, Audrey (Thurlo) Tucker of Kentucky, and Gwen (Jim) Wyatt of Ohio, a brother, Keith (Georgene) Hart of Kentucky, four grandchildren, Joshua A.(Cate) Hart of Connersville, Zachary S. Edmund “Ed” Williams, 71, died Friday June 24, 2011 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland. Ed was born Feb. 14, 1940 in Franklin to James and Mabel (Parmerlee) Williams. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married Peggy Lewis on May 28, 1977 in New Whiteland. They were married for 34 years. He was owner/ operator of Ed’s Crane Service in Franklin for 38 years, working in Johnson and Marion counties. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears football and University of Kentucky basketball. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop and spending time with his family. Carl E. Moldthan, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday June 6, 2011. He was born in Indianapolis on January 3, 1946 to the late John and Rita (Royse) Moldthan. He retired in 1987, after 20 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He was a member of the Local Union #416. He was a member and past director of the Indianapolis Taxpayers Association. He was honored in 1987 as the State of Indiana Man of the Year. He is survived by three sons Roderick, Matthew, and Jason Moldthan; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Shumaker, Kathleen (James) Findlay, Eileen Green, and Margaret (James) Green; a brother, John (Debbie) Moldthan; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Moldthan. Stephen “Steve” Lefevers, 47, died Sunday May 29, 2011 in New Whiteland. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Steve was born May 22, 1964 in Indianapolis to Otis Jr. and Ruth (Dozier) Lefevers. He was a graduate of Southport High School. He married Lorri Dufek in Indianapolis on Sept. 6, 1986; they were married for 24 years. He was employed as a machinist for 14 years with NSK in Franklin. He was a Baltimore Oriole’s baseball fan and collected baseball memorabilia. He enjoyed going to horse racing and going to Indiana Live Casino. He also was a fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and NASCAR, his favorite driver was Ken Schrader. Edward Alan Kimbler, 58, died Sunday May 15, 2011 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Edward was born May 15, 1953 in Edinburgh. He was a graduate of Franklin Community High School. He enjoyed gardening, drawing, baseball and softball. He loved playing his guitar and listening to old blues, jazz and ragtime music. He loved his dogs Patches and Sophie. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Ellen J. (Michael) and Edward F. David Anthony Kelsay,60, died May 9, 2011 in Indianapolis, IN. He was a resident of Whiteland. He was owner and operator or David A. Kelsay Inc. for 35 years. He was a member of the Whiteland Jubilee Lodge #746, Scottish Rite, and on the Whiteland Town Council for 20 plus years. He was a former Whiteland police officer and a volunteer fireman for the Whiteland Fire Department. He loved family time and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Marine Corp.Veteran. He loved gardening and deer hunting. He was a member of the Franklin Memorial Christian Church and the American Legion Post in Franklin. He was married to Anita (Smith) Heath for 12 years. Joe enjoyed diving, snorkeling, hunting and fishing and was a member of the N.R.A. She was employed at Arvins for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She married Melborne Ash in 1970, and then married Alvin N. Calhoun in 1975. She was a member of Charity Fellowship Church in Franklin. She enjoyed talking to anyone about the Lord and asking them to church. She enjoyed crafts, reading the bible, listening to gospel music, going to garage sales and making fudge for her family and friends. She loved spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren. Charmie “Tex” Bernard Clawson, 74, died Sunday March 27, 2011 in Bradenton, Florida. He was a resident of Morgantown. He was born March 30, 1936 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Winnie Wilburn and Novella (Mote) Clawson. He married Rebecca “Becky” Sue Pope on April 20, 1980. He was a carpenter with the Carpenters Union in Indianapolis working in construction. He enjoyed fishing, being at the ocean, attending and at a younger age participating in rodeos. He was a member and former associate pastor of Mt. Pleasant Christian Fellowship Church in Greenwood. Survivors include, his wife, Rebecca Clawson of Morgantown, ten children, Darrel Clawson of Nashville, Paul (Felicia) Clawson, Gina Sandner, Robin Clawson and Trina Shelton all of Taylorsville, Ricky(Donna) Burns of Bloomington, Jackie (Becky) Burns, Angela (Dylan) Whitaker, Jennifer(David) Vaught all of Morgantown, and Nancy (Mike) Napier of Virginia, a sister, Jean Stewart of Texas, a brother, Wilburn Beau Clawson of Texas and 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Donald Bruce Fisher, 77, died Monday March 28, 2011 in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Donald was born Feb. 17, 1934 to Thomas B. and Inez M. (Duffie) Fisher in Waukegan, Ill. He was married to Stella Marie (Brown) Fisher, she preceded him is death in 2008. He was employed as a design engineer and commercial artist for Precision Rubber Plate and then for Micro Metl Corp. He was owner and opertator of a sheet metal fabrication company, Amcon Inc., for 10 years. He retired in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, drawing pictures, classic cars, building and flying remote controlled airplanes. He loved to ride his golf cart around New Whiteland. His accomplishments include; writing and illustrating the book, Reptiles Past and Present, winning a drawing contest for Campbell’s Soup Labels and a radio contest for drawing the best Purple People Eater. Survivors include, five children, Victoria Ann (Ronald) Taylor and Donald K. (Denise) Fisher both of Indianapolis, Brian Dean Fisher and Mark Alan Fisher both of New Whiteland, and Brenda Marie (Damian) Katt of Greenwood, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild and his second cousin, science fiction writer, Ray Bradbury. Glenn Michael Burton, 82, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Glenn was born March 13, 1929, in Bloomington, to Arthur and Alice (Thompson) Burton. He married Roberta F. Harkins on May 24, 1957, in Indianapolis. He was a machine operator at Detroit Diesel Allison for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 252 in Greenwood. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Roberta F. Burton of Indianapolis; three children, Robert W. Burton of Greenwood, Glenn M. (Krista) Burton Jr. of Carmel and Joseph M. Burton of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Joe, Cassy, Travis, Tyler, Jessica and Kellie Burton; and two great-grandchildren, Delaney and Aubrea Burton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Burton and Alice Mattox; two brothers, John and Jerry Burton; and three sisters, Marjorie McLaughlin, Sally Allen and Patty Salbeck. Chelsey Marie Craig, 20, died Friday, March 11, 2011, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin. Chelsey was born June 11, 1990, to Mark and Bonnie (Elower) Craig in Beech Grove. She attended Clark-Pleasant Academy and graduated from Whiteland Community High School in 2009. She was attending Ivy Tech Community College. She enjoyed four-wheeling, roller skating, camping and swimming. She collected Barbie dolls and Ty Beanie Babies. Chelsey tutored several students in math and science and volunteered at the Johnson County animal shelter. He was married to Virginia Simpson on Sept. 9, 2000. He was employed for General Motors as a machinist for 37 years, retiring in 1981. He was well known as an Auctioneer in Johnson and surrounding counties for 57 years. He was a member and past master of the Franklin Masonic Lodge and a member of the V.F.W. in Whiteland. Gerald enjoyed fishing, western movies and helping people. Myrna Lynn (Goodman) Wright, 67, died Saturday, Feb. 26 2011, in Trafalgar. She was a resident of Franklin. Myrna was born May 26, 1943, in Franklin, to Ira and Oma K. (Goode) Goodman. She was employed in production with Arvin Automotive in Franklin for several years. She also enjoyed working at Walter’s Truck Stop in Franklin for many years. Myrna enjoyed going to casinos and listening to musician Randy Travis. She was a giving person and loved helping family, friends and others. Richard Lee Raasch, 83, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Richard was a loan executive (from Indiana Insurance to the United Way) who enjoyed bowling, golf, racquetball, church activities, coached little league, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was the former vice president for Indiana Insurance and retired from there in 1993 after 42 years. Richard served the Navy in the Korean War and in World War II. Margaret (Miller) Shumway, 87, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, while visiting her daughter, Janet Gerking, in Florida, where she was able to meet her great-grandson, Jack Gerking. She was born June 20, 1923, in Indianapolis. Her children, grandchildren and their spouses, Janet and Shelby Gerking; Susan and Greg Johnson; Evan, Andrea, and Jack Gerking; and Juliet Johnson will miss her wit, wisdom and grace. Her loving sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Virginia McGriffin; and her nieces and nephews continue to share the stories of Margaret’s courage and humor. The light of her life, her husband, Jack, was a medic in World War II and a machinist at the Naval Avionics Center in Indianapolis. Margaret raised her daughters and pursued a career at Fort Benjamin Harrison and Danner’s in Indianapolis. In retirement, she mastered the iMac and cultivated her interest in literature. Her iPod was loaded with the works of Dumas, Connelly and Twain. She loved the Three Tenors, Deanna Durbin movies and the Bible. She could argue the merits of a subtitled film with the sharpest of critics. She drove her trusty Dodge from her home in New Albany across the bridge to church in Louisville, Ky., every Sunday and celebrated her faith with the wonderful ladies of the Ruth Class at Broadway Baptist Church. Margaret will be buried next to her husband Jack and son David on Tuesday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel. Norma was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Christopher, Ill., to the late Otis L. and Della M. (Rowland) Furlow. She was a retired teacher and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles and writing in her journal. Johnny Glenn Gregory, 67, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. Johnny was born May 11, 1943, in Franklin, Ky., to Edward P. and Ruth B. (Grace) Gregory. He married Patricia A. McGee on Feb. 22, 1963. They were married for 47 years. He was employed by Navistar for 27 years in the truck engine manufacturing division. He retired in June 1997. He was a member of Bargersville Church of Christ for the past 10 years. He enjoyed reading his Bible, watching Western movies and collecting model cars. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gregory of Franklin; two children, Timothy Dean Gregory of Franklin and Ruth Ann (Kevin) Engle of Indianapolis; three brothers, Leonard (Susie) Gregory of Indianapolis, Christopher (Anita) Gregory of Bargersville and Randy Gregory of Beech Grove; five grandchildren, Maria Nicholle Gregory, Timothy Dean Gregory II, Daniel Joseph Murphy and Elizabeth Elaine Murphy, all of Indianapolis, and Tiffany Noel Dollar of Franklin; and three great-grandchildren. (Dark) Hickey, 53, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, after her life was disrupted by a two-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.Claudia was born Nov. 21, 1957, in Muncie, to Kyle and Patty Dark. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1976. She was the wife of Thomas “Tom” Hickey.Claudia touched many lives through her work at Whiteland Community School Corp. and her home party planning businesses, Colesce, Bittersweet Candles and Undercover Wear. Claudia was an avid supporter of Whiteland Community High School football.
