Debra J. (McWhorter) Reed, 53, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include her husband, Larry Reed of Indianapolis; two daughters, Lori Tolar and Michelle Childers, both of Indianapolis; stepfather, Bob Neal of Martinsville; five sisters, Sonja Robinette, Diane Robinson and Pam Seyfried, all of Martinsville, Delores Rose of Indianapolis and Bobbi Aldridge of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McWhorter; her mother, Gladys M. Helen May (Moore) Lewis, 83, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a resident of Greenwood, formerly of Florida.  Survivors include four children, Larry D. (Rosalind) Lewis of Munster, Teresa A. (Don) Poole of Greenwood, James B. (Kristin) Lewis of Nineveh and Stevan H. (Irene) Lewis of Beech Grove; a sister, Rena Moore Fleming of Florida; two brothers, Charles Moore and John (Wilma) Moore, both of Avon; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Moore; sister-in-law, Alice Moore; brother, Leonard Moore; and sister, Josephine Moore.

David Lee Griffin, 75, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Seymour. He was a resident of Seymour.

Sylvia Lashley

Sylvia Jean (Lasiter) Lashley, 57, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Johnson Memorial Hos­pital in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.  Sylvia was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Franklin to Forrest Russ­ell and Ethel Jean (Caswell) Lasiter.
She loved spending time with her fiance, David. She enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets.
Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Lashley Query (husband Jason) and Misty Lashley Aubrey, both of Franklin; four sisters, Doris Hicks (husband Doug), Donna Brown and Denise Meece (husband Kevin), all of Greenwood, and Mary Outlaw of South Carolina; two brothers, Buddy Lasiter (wife Shariee) of Whiteland and Billy Lasiter (wife Michelle) of Franklin; fiance, David Wesley of Franklin; and seven grandchildren, Tylor, Dylan, Logan and Stormy Neville, John Dalton Studer, Morgan Lashley and Kelsea Query; several nieces and nephews; and her dogs, Sage and Soffie.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Lashley Jr.; and a son, Rusty Lashley.

Nova M. (Murray) Johnson, 96, died Wednesday March 3, 2010, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. She was a longtime resident of Franklin. Nova was a member of the Franklin chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at Johnson Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and crafts.  Survivors include a daughter, Jane Smith of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and a brother.

Kevin Joseph Lepper, 44, died Tues­day, Feb. 9, 2010, in Green­wood. He was a resident of Greenwood.
Kevin was born June 6, 1965, in Beech Grove. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

James Ernest Gravens, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. He passed away peacefully at home in Whiteland with family at his bedside. Robert John Ryon, 66, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Trafalgar.  He was born Aug. 2, 1943, to the late Elmer and Lucille (Booth) Ryon.
Robert owned and operated Robert Ryon Pest Control in Trafal­gar for 40 years. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include three children, Timothy (Judy) Ryon of Indi­­ana­­polis and Carol Balderas and John Ryon Jr., both of Franklin; a sister, Beverly (David) Bush of New White­land; a brother, David (Mary) Ryon of Dayton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Theodorus Hendrickus Wennen

Theodorus Hendrikus Wennen, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Theo was born May 10, 1922, in The Hague, Netherlands, to Gerard and Aleida (ten Hengel) Wennen, the ninth of 12 children.  He loved God and his family and spending time wrestling with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Martin (Jane) Wennen of Mooresville, Van Theo (Jaci) Wennen of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Douglas (Marlisa) Wennen of Shirley and Yvonne (Kunle) Wennen-Aluko of Indianapolis; two brothers, Martin Wennen of Mooresville and Jan Wennen of The Hague; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.
Monsignor Mark Svarczkopf will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian St., Greenwood. Suzanne S. Mary McGinnis

Mary Katherine McGinnis, 90, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at her residence in Franklin.
She was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Franklin. Her parents were George D. and Monta E. (Moore) Weddle. She married Robert G. McGinnis on Dec. 19, 1941, in Westfield. He preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Roger (Judy) McGinnis and Rex McGinnis, both of Franklin; a daughter, Karen (Daniel) Hardin of Franklin; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Scott) Smith of Carmel; and a great-grandson, Conner Smith of Carmel.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Helen Weddle of Franklin and Jane Weddle of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Hermann R. Cecil D. Groves

Cecil D. Groves, 85, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, in Mooresville. He was a resident Mooresville and a former resident of Greenwood and Fort Wayne.
Cecil was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Fort Wayne to Virl and Esther (Cornell) Groves. He married Evelyn (Watson) on April 17, 1976; and she survives.
He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force veteran, retiring from the Indiana Air National Guard as a senior master sergeant after 28 years of service.
He enjoyed woodworking and reading Aviation, Consumer Reports and Popular Mechanics magazines. He and his wife were square dancers. He was affectionate; he and Mother were always holding hands. He was a member of the Fort Wayne American Legion.

Zing Hliang, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at her residence in Indianapolis.  Survivors include nine children, the Rev. Stephen W. Gumm III, 23, died Tuesday Sept. 22, 2009 in indianapolis.  He was a resident of New Whiteland.  He was born May 29, 1986.  He attended Whiteland High School.  Stephen enjoyed and owned muscle cars.  He liked to play the guitar and listen to all kinds of music.  His favorite band was Nirvana.  Survivors include his father Stephen W, Gumm II of New Whiteland, mother Melissa (Gordon) Sleek of Indianapolis, a son, Stephen W, Gumm IV of New Whiteland, 3 brothers Brandon Gumm of New Whiteland, Jessie and Cody Sleek of Indianapolis, a step-brother Brandon Sleek of Indianapolis, a step-sister Amanda Sleek of Indianaplis, grandparents, Julia Gumm of Whiteland, Judy Thomson of Indianaplis and Jim Thompson of Indianapolis.  He was preceded in death by gradfathers, Stephen W. He was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Albany, Ky. He was employed by International Union of Oper­ating Engin­eers Local 103 as a heavy-equipment operator for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening.

Raymond M. Scott Sr., 68, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Franklin Meadows in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. Hilda E. "Connie" Vitel, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin.

Thelma O. (Siegman) Kremple, 79, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, in Franklin. She was a resident of Greenwood.

Carole Robin Garcia, 70, passed away early Saturday morning, August 29, 2009, with her family by her side.  She is survived by her husband Alvaro, three children Greg, Pamela and Eric, six grandchildren Brandon, Jessica, Hudson, Erika, Elliot and Wesley and a sister Georgia.  Carole leaves a leacy of a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was an incredible example of how to live out life valueing friendships by unconditionally loving others.  A memorial service celebrating Carole's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at The Life Center at Southport (Indianapolis Baptist Temple), 4002 E. Sherri Raye (Swisher) Wilker­son, 50, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Morgantown. She was a resident of Morgantown. She was born July 6, 1959, in Franklin. Robert A. Wade

Robert Arnold "Bob" Wade, 61, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Whiteland. He was a resident of Whiteland. Bob was born July 15, 1948, in Indianapolis to Richard A. and Ruth E. (Baker) Wade.He married Brenda Hawkins in March 1980. They were married for 29 years. Bob attended Indianapolis Public School 81 and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1966. He graduated in 1970 from Indiana Central College, now University of Indianapolis, with a major in music education. He taught music in the Indianapolis Public Schools for four years, but his dream was to work in television. He was a producer-director at WTTV-Channel 4 for many years. He was a freelance sports cameraman for WTTV, ESPN, ABC Sports, NBC Sports, Ligner Motorsports Production and Fox Sports. He also was a cameraman, then director, for the Hoosier Lottery's "Hoosier Millionaire TV Show" for 10 years. After moving to Whiteland in the early 1980s, he became a Whiteland volunteer firefighter. He did this for many years and then passed the torch on to his son, Joshua. He was employed at Fletcher Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Franklin as a salesman for the past seven years, where he leaves many good friends. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He has left a void in our lives that will never be filled. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Wade; his mother, Ruth Wade of Greenwood; two children, Amanda (Brad) Sliwinski of Avon and Joshua Wade of Whiteland; a brother, Randy (Andy) Wade of Greenwood; a sister, Roberta (Dennis) Miller of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Blake McDonald and Corrine Sliwinski of Avon; parents-in-law, Annie and Wayne Singleton and Jack and Carroll Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews and their families, Erin and Sam Rogian and son Tyler, Matthew and Laura Wade and son Landen, Brittney and Stuart Thomas and son Eli, Jenny and Kris Kiger, Jacob Miller, Chad and Cate Hawkins and son Logan, Amy Kauffman and son Zach, and Kimberly Pitcher and children Kaitlyn and Clay Taylor. He was preceded to heaven by his father, Richard Wade; grandparents, Ralph and Marjorie Wade and Beaulah and Earl Baker; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Cletis C. Cooper

Cletis C. Cooper, 81, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at his residence in Whiteland. He was a longtime resident of Whiteland, residing there for more than 40 years. Cletis was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Pickett County, Tenn., to Elbert and Lena (Gunter) Cooper. He was employed by Arvin in Greenwood for 42 years as a forklift operator. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, playing cards and watching Westerns, NASCAR and his son's car races. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cletis had a great sense of humor, played practical jokes and enjoyed laughing.  Survivors include his children, Peggy Ann (Thomas) McLaughlin of Massachusetts, Susie (Ron) Bowen of Greenwood, Robert Clayton (Elizabeth) Cooper and Marty C. (Cindy) Cooper, both of Franklin, and John W. Cooper of Whiteland; five siblings, Beulah Hardwick, Brenda Cravens and Barbara Compton, all of Tennessee, and Belinda Fellenstein and Clinton Cooper, both of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Connie Burkhead and John Bearry. Dr. Joseph G. Jeanne L. (St. George) Wegner, 90, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009. She was a resident of Franklin. Rosemary (Glass) Smoot, 71, died July 27, 2009, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Allene Hicks

Allene E. (Emerson) Hicks, 84, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin. She was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Liberty, Ky., to Nute and Pina Mae (Scott) Emerson.
She married James D. Hicks in November 1942 in Kentucky. He died in 1981. Allene enjoyed crocheting, making candy, gardening, country music and taking pictures. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Disabled American Veterans of Greenwood and a member of Shiloh Community Church of Franklin. She was employed by Varynit Mills, Dage-Bendix and Specialty Connectors until retiring in 1987. Survivors include a son, James K. (Loretta) Hicks of Franklin; a sister, Flonnie Marple of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Gregory Hicks and Ronda Fletcher, both of Franklin; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jakob Hicks, and Anthony and Krystal Scott, all of Franklin. He married Lisa McCrorie on Dec. 8, 2000, in Franklin. He enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He was a cell leader at Casting Technology Co. in Franklin for 11 years. William Davis

William M. Davis, 69, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include three sisters, Margie and Maggie Davis and Jennie Lou Denova; and five brothers, Kenneth, Wayne, Roger, Terry and Robert R. Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dora (Phillips) Davis; a sister, Linda Davis; and three brothers, Frenchot, Andrew and James Davis. A private family service will be conducted. William Mason

William O. Mason, 84, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at his residence in Whiteland.  Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Mason of Whiteland and Pamela Mason of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Steven W. Stadick and Jessica Mason Hoff; one great-grandson, Kaden Mason Kang; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Mason of Chesterfield, Va., Joanne Donithan of Henderson, Ky., and Mary Spooner o fEvansville; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death byhis wife of 50 years, Gloria (Spooner) Mason; his parents, Daisy O. (Sinn) Mason and Louis E. Mason; two sisters, and two brothers.  A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday ast Jessen Funeral Home, 729 U.S. 31 North, Whiteland.  Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. 

Ian Sloan York
Ian Sloan York, 21, passed away July 5, 2009, in Santa Clara, California.  He was a resident of Greenwood.

Survivors include his parents, John and Cindy York of Greenwoord; a son, Kyrin York of Beech Grove; two siblings, Tabitha and Todd York, both of Greenwood; a grandmother, Patsy Gillenwater of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews, Tierry, Destiny, Savanna, Sophia, and Elijah.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Frances York and Roger Gillenwater.  The reverend Charlie Cash will will conduct a funeral sercice at 11 a.m. today at the Vineyard Community Church, 512 S.  Madison Ave., Greenwood.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Vernard W. Kendrick

Vernard W. "Ben" Kendrick went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 13, 2009, after a brief illness. He was a resident of Greenwood. He was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Shickshinny, Pa., to William Beach and Lillian Viola (Lutz) Kendrick. His early ambition was to become a professional baseball player, and he played with a semiprofessional team and tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals. At the Star of Hope Mission in Paterson, N.J., he committed his life to the Lord for foreign missions, and from then on he was on the Lord's team.  On June 19, 1948, he married Nina May Brownell, who survives. They were married for 61 years. After graduating from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, N.Y., he and Nina left for language study in France and then moved on to Africa. Together, Ben and Nina served as missionaries under Baptist Mid-Missions in Chad and Central African Republic. While in Central African Republic, they were house parents at a boarding school for missionary children. He also was involved in church planting and teaching in a Bible school for African pastors. During his final term, he served as the field administrator in the capital city of Bangui. He then served in the home office until his retirement in 1989. His ministry continued in preaching, in camp ministry and most recently as an administrator and teacher at Indiana Baptist College in Greenwood. Uncle Ben, or Dr. Ben, as he was known to hundreds of young and old alike, was quite a storyteller, and he authored eight books, one of which he co-authored with Nina. Ben was known for his love of dill pickles with chocolate cake. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Indians fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Kendrick. Surviving are the couple's three children, Pamela (and husband Jeff) Cook of Warsaw, Peter (and wife Deborah) Kendrick of Cortland, Ohio, and Paul Kendrick of Greenwood; his brother, Homer Kendrick of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Kris Kendrick and Erin (and husband Jeremy) Beigh; seven step grandchildren, Ryan (and wife Stacie) Cook, Matthew Cook, Michael Cook, Kody Cook, Collins (and wife Katie) Brown, Chase Brown and McKenzie Brown; and two great-step grandchildren, Kayla Beigh and Taylyn Cook. The Rev. David Zempel will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Indiana Baptist College chapel, 1301 W. County Line Road, Greenwood. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the chapel. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley, Greenwood. Mary E. McClain

Mary E. (Lewis) McClain, 85, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Greenwood Village Pavilion. She was a resident of Franklin. She was born Feb. 19, 1924, to the late Herbert and Hattie (Sims) Lewis. She was married to Loren D. McClain, who preceded her in death. They were the parents of five precious children. Survivors include four children, Loren "Buck" (Betty) McClain and Devon Dee Rybolt, both of Franklin, Beverly K. Druley (Lou Sullivan) of Avon and Kelly (Kevin) Roethemeier of Whiteland; two sisters, Bernice Martin of Franklin and Norma Deckard of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Steve McClain, Carrie Baldwin, Ashley Hubbard, Matthew Cooper, Karlee Tucker and Michael Rybolt; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Alexa Ann Huddle; and seven siblings, Gwen Lewis, James Lewis, Herbert Lewis Jr., Virginia Lewis, Ernestine Jacobs, Frances Robbins and Patricia DeWar. She attended high school in Johnson County. She was employed as a private duty nurse for 40 years. She was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church, 55 Club, Senior Adult Ministry, Franklin Senior Center, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for 50 years and the American Legion Auxiliary. The Rev. Larry McAdams will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Friday at Franklin Memorial Christian Church, 1720 N. Graham Road. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Robert A. Bay

Robert Arnold Bay, 49, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Frank­lin. He was a resident of Franklin. Survivors include five sisters, Linda Huffman, Louise Flath, Mar­tha Sebesky, Lori Morgan and Rachel Adams; and a brother, Buzz Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth W. and M. Ellen (Noel) Bay; and five siblings. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. today at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Dorothy E. Stephenson

July 8, 2009, was the coronation day for Dorothy Ellen Stephenson. Dorothy passed peacefully from this life into the next life, as she went home to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ in Beech Grove. Dorothy was born June 24, 1917, in Milton, Ky., to Benjamin F. and Anna E. (Mitchell) Coghill. Dorothy was a resident of New Whiteland. She and her husband owned and operated the D&J Market in Amity for more than 25 years. Dorothy also was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, her flower garden, cooking and reading and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Edward and wife Arlette Stephenson of New Whiteland; daughters, Janice and husband James Graham of Whiteland and Cheryl and husband David "Elmo" Anderson of Lexington, Ky.; sister, Ethel Westrick of Milton, Ky.; grandchildren, Danielle (Mark) Brayer, Nichol (Michael) Nardozzi, Carrie Fink, Matthew (Kara) Anderson, Alexander (Amanda) Bell, Michelle Stephenson, Laura (Justin) Royalty, Melanie Anderson, Jared (Rissa) Duymovic and Jenaba Waggy; and great-grandchildren, Hayley Brayer, William Baker, Ashley Fink, Sara Weddle, Destiny Baker, Nathaniel Baker, Devan Royalty, Madison Nardozzi and Audrey Duymovic. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Forest Mitchell Coghill, Howard Elmo Coghill and Carroll Randolph Coghill. A funeral service was conducted Friday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, by her son-in-law, David Anderson. Burial was at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Kelly M. Roome

Kelly Marie Roome, 19, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, in Marysville, Calif. She was a resident of Greenwood. She was born April 18, 1990, in Indianapolis. She was a Greenwood Community High School graduate. She had been employed at Famous Dave's in Greenwood. Kelly loved sports, playing softball and basketball at Greenwood Community High School. She loved the outdoors and was very outgoing. She was the 2008 homecoming queen at Greenwood Community High School. She will always be loved and missed. Keep her in your thoughts. Survivors include her parents, Daniel and Kim (Mahurin) Roome of Greenwood; a sister, Kristy Roome of Greenwood; a brother, Daniel K. Roome Jr. of Greenwood; and her grandparents, Jim and Lois Roome of Greenfield and Ken and Jean Mahurin of Whiteland. The Rev. Kenneth A. McQuilling

Kenneth Allen McQuilling, 64, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Com­munity Hospital East. He was a resident of Greenwood. He was born May 31, 1945, in Franklin. He was employed at ArvinMeritor for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He loved traveling to Florida, fishing and taking pictures. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his parents, Kenneth Earl and Dorothy (McMurray) McQuilling of White­land; wife, Amanda (Heckman) McQuilling of Greenwood; two children, Jerrod McQuilling of Franklin and Marisa McQuilling of Greenwood; one brother, Mike (Judy) McQuilling of Russiaville; and one granddaughter, Emma Christine McQuilling of Franklin.  A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel; 197 E.
